Welcome to your stylish place!
November 2017
I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. Currently fully immersed in my Fashion Science Master in Italy. I’m a freelance graphic designer and my passion lies within fashion, illustration, and style. In this blog, I will write about problems concerning the fashion industry and all of us. You will also find out what inspires me to create and see the outcome of my inspirations.
I will have to say that I adore the creations of all the luxury brands/designers you can think of and I will mention only a few: Valentino, Zuhair Murad, Elie Saab, Pierre Balmain, Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Armani. Designers that gave their hearts to fashion, creating couture, people who have a great appreciation for women’s beauty, elegant shape, and style. Brands that alter the way we perceive the woman and her role in the world. They are creators of timeless pieces.
Unfortunately, not many ever get to wear couture pieces. Just by looking around while walking down the street, wherever you are, fast fashion is becoming omnipresent. Today what people seek, shall be given and so we spin the wheel. We as buyers create an enormous demand for quantity over quality. Fast fashion brands try to stay on the edge of the wave by bringing to life new content every day, new ‘collections’ every month or two.
We see the beautiful side of things but all that content comes at a price. What is the point in buying a garment we would wear once or twice and then throw away or bury somewhere deep in our closet? How did we come to justify such behavior? The industry is exhausting its resources, damaging nature by unbelievable amounts of waste and demanding more than what is sustainable.
The fashion industry is making a 180-degree turn and it’s all coming down to slow fashion, thumbs up for all the companies that really care! They are changing the way fashion is using up our limited resources by creating innovative production paths for a balanced future. The change has started, yet there is a long way to go and education is the key.
I’m a lover of style! As such I love seeing a stylish woman strolling down the street:
She is comfortable in her own skin, not because she’s dressed head to toe in the latest trends, but because she trusts her inner voice of style, she knows her body and what looks good on her. She walks confidently and has that happy glow!
The better it fits, the better you look. Trends are fleeting, style is forever!
My blog is presenting behind the scenes of the craft of creating clothing, taking good care of what you already own, and giving to your old clothes new life by redesigning them. Not many are ever going to get the feel of what it is to wear a couture creation, but I believe that everyone can create their own everyday fairy tale. I will also be in the lookout for the ones doing it right. Fashion is about empowerment and glory and by creating our own style we project all the hard work into a flawless statement of value.
Stay stylish and mindful!
Yours,
Monika Karanikolova ❤
